There are many times when using a mechanical character, human form, or creature, tend to be more practical and lifelike then dressing up or applying makeup to an actor.
Welcome to our Mechanical Effects and Engineering page!
Since the creation of animatronics in 1954, the progression and technologies have come so far, the realism of these characters can be mesmerizing. You may be looking for a talking skull, a howling wolf, or a grinning man...Regardless of the effect, we can create the inner and outer workings of the puppet or character your imagination requires.
Many types of special effects require specialized machines that cater to a given effect or maybe you’re working with a low budget and need a special piece of equipment designed to get that incredible shot. We have successfully engineered various mechanical devices specifically for director’s needs, which could not be purchased or rented. The sky is the limit when it comes to creating one of a kind device that will enhance your scene.
Filming in the Kelp Forest- Websters Point, Santa Barbara Island. Synapse FX was contracted to engineer an Underwater Housing for the CANON XL1 DV camera, back in the year 2000. Alan De Herrera, a Fullerton Documentary Filmmaker, was in need of a special housing to get his underwater shots and at that time, there were no housings available for purchase, so he hired us to create one.
